GUIDELINES FOR WEDDINGS AT MIRANDA CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH (MCC)
CEREMONIES AT MCC
In order to have a wedding ceremony at MCC, it is necessary that the marriage should take place according to the rites of the Congregational Church (Religious Act) or the rights of the Marriage Act 1961 (Civil Act). The requirements for the celebration of a religious marriage may differ from those of the civil law. At MCC, both religious and civil marriages are conducted.
PASTOR OR CIVIL CELEBRANT
Those from outside MCC can supply their own Pastor/Celebrant who must possess the appropriate qualifications. For those couples wanting to use a Pastor from MCC, they should first contact the Church Office who will guide them through the process of preparation and will be responsible for all the required Church and Government documentation. The Letter of Permission and/or Acceptance from the Church confirming availability for the chosen date and time needs to be presented to secure the booking.
Couples will need to give to the officiating Pastor/Celebrant at least 3 months' notice of their wedding. If you have difficulty finding a Pastor or Celebrant to celebrate your wedding, please contact the Church Office.
DOCUMENTATION
Documents will need to include a full copy of Certificate of Birth or Passport. A current non-Australian Passport or Certificate of Birth will suffice from those born overseas (must be officially translated into English). All other documentation will be provided by the Church.
MARRIAGE CEREMONY
The form of the wedding ceremony will be decided in discussion with the Pastor/Celebrant.
PRE-MARRIAGE EDUCATION COURSES
These are recommended by both the Church and Government, and should be discussed with your Celebrant as soon as possible.
SPIRITUAL PREPARATION
Proper spiritual preparation for the Sacrament of Matrimony is important and your Pastor/Celebrant will assist you with this.
BOOKINGS FOR WEDDINGS
A proposed time and date for the wedding should be provided to the Church office at the time of contact and the office will be in contact with you shortly after to confirm availability and details. MCC is available for weddings on Saturdays and weekdays. There are no weddings on Sundays. A booking form will be made available upon request being confirmed.
